At Lion Academy of Music, our acoustic guitar lessons offer a relaxed, rewarding way to learn music from the ground up.
Students start by developing core skills such as open chords, strumming patterns, rhythm, and basic fingerpicking. As confidence grows, we introduce more advanced techniques, including barre chords, dynamics, and solo arrangements.
Whether you’re learning to accompany your singing, play your favourite songs, or write your own music, our lessons are tailored to your pace and interests, making each session fun, focused, and encouraging.
The acoustic guitar is perfect for a wide range of styles—from folk and pop to country, classical, and singer-songwriter music. We have a 100% exam pass rate and regularly submit students in exams with these current boards ABRSM, LCM, RSL (Rockschool) and Trinity College London.

Our approach
Technique. Confidence. Grades
Acoustic guitar technique focuses on clarity, control, and musical expression. Students develop skills like fingerpicking patterns, chord transitions, strumming dynamics, and alternate tunings, as well as techniques such as hammer-ons, pull-offs, and percussive playing.

Our talented guitar team—Pete and Rik—bring years of experience and a passion for teaching to every lesson. Together, they offer expert tuition in acoustic and electric guitar, bass, and ukulele, catering to all ages and skill levels. Pete also specialises in Tenor Banjo and Mandolin, making our string offering even more versatile. Whether you’re picking up your first chord or diving into advanced techniques, you’re in great hands with Pete and Rik.

We advise children from the age of 6 upwards benefit from one-to-one lessons. However some younger children can still benefit with shorter lessons.

Yes. We encourage students to pursue examinations, as Grades 6 upwards gain UCAS Points for University. We also offer exam tuition in Classical/Folk/Pop and Musical Theatre depending on what the student may want to pursue.

No. Exams are extremely beneficial in improving confidence and technique, however sometimes they can be scary and time consuming. Some students prefer lessons for enjoyment and a break from all those devices!
